Introduction

Daintree National Park (CYPAL) protects two major visitor areas in Far North Queensland: Mossman Gorge and Cape Tribulation. The park is part of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area, where tropical rainforest, rivers, coastal mountains, beaches, and reef-country scenery meet.

For broader background on the park's rainforest, geography, and protected status, see the Daintree National Park Wikipedia page. For current visitor planning, safety notices, closures, and facilities, use the Daintree National Park official Queensland Parks page.

The webcam cards use Douglas Shire Council camera images from the Daintree Ferry area on Cape Tribulation Road. These are access and road-condition cameras, not scenic rainforest cameras, but they are useful for checking ferry approaches and travel conditions for the Cape Tribulation side of Daintree National Park. James Cook University's Daintree Rainforest Observatory also publishes a live wildlife and canopy camera page, which is linked below.

Top Hikes

Dubuji boardwalk is an easy Cape Tribulation rainforest boardwalk through fan palms, mangroves, and lowland tropical forest near the coast. Queensland Parks lists it as a 1.2 km / 0.75 mi circuit, about 45 minutes, with minimal elevation gain.

Rainforest circuit track in the Mossman Gorge section is a moderate rainforest walk through lush tropical forest beside the Mossman River area. Queensland Parks lists it as a 3.4 km / 2.1 mi circuit, about 2 hours. Published elevation gain is not listed by Queensland Parks, but expect low to moderate undulation on formed rainforest track.

Mount Sorrow ridge trail is the difficult choice near Cape Tribulation. Queensland Parks lists it as 7 km / 4.3 mi return and about 6 hours, climbing to a lookout at about 680 m / 2,230 ft elevation. Treat the climb as roughly 680 m / 2,230 ft of elevation gain from near sea level, and avoid the route in wet, very hot, humid, or cloudy conditions.

Manjal Jimalji - Devils Thumb trail is another strenuous rainforest route. Queensland Parks lists it as 10.6 km / 6.6 mi return and about 8 hours. It is a full-day hike for experienced, prepared walkers.

Camping and Lodging

Queensland Parks lists Noah Beach camping area as the national park camping option in Daintree National Park. Camping is not permitted elsewhere in the park. Noah Beach is a small coastal campground for tents and camper trailers, with toilets but no showers, barbecues, generators, campfires, or dogs.

Lodging is found outside the national park at Cape Tribulation, Cow Bay, the Daintree Coast, Mossman, Port Douglas, and Cairns. Book ahead in busy seasons and check ferry, road, and weather conditions before traveling north of the Daintree River.

Weather and Road Conditions

Daintree weather is tropical. The cooler, drier season is generally better for walking, while the wet season can bring intense rain, flooding, road closures, ferry delays, slippery tracks, creek hazards, and higher humidity. Queensland Parks also highlights crocodile, cassowary, marine stinger, and tropical safety warnings for the area.

Getting Around - Transportation

Daintree National Park is about 80 to 150 km / 50 to 93 mi north of Cairns, depending on whether you are visiting Mossman Gorge or Cape Tribulation. Mossman Gorge is reached by road near Mossman, while Cape Tribulation travel usually involves the Daintree River ferry and the coastal road north. Check Queensland Parks alerts and local road conditions before committing to the Cape Tribulation section.

Webcam Notes

The Daintree webcam cards use current image feeds from the Douglas Shire Council disaster dashboard. JCU also notes that its Daintree Rainforest Observatory live wildlife and canopy feeds are featured when available, with recorded footage sometimes shown when live feeds are unavailable. That JCU page is linked below because it is protected by Cloudflare and does not expose a stable public embed for this site.
