Introduction
Plitvice Lakes National Park is Croatia's oldest and largest national park. The official park site describes Plitvice as a landscape of exceptional natural beauty that was declared Croatia's first national park on April 8, 1949. The park is famous for sixteen terraced lakes, waterfalls, travertine barriers, forests, meadows, and clear karst water.
UNESCO lists Plitvice Lakes National Park as a World Heritage property because of its striking lake system, tufa formation, waterfalls, forests, and ecological processes. Visitors should stay on marked paths and boardwalks because the tufa barriers are living, fragile formations that continue to shape the lakes.

Top Hikes
These three hikes are good starting points for planning, with at least one more difficult option. Distances and elevation gain are rounded; check the official park trail page for current closures, permits, weather, and trail conditions.
Program C Lake Tour (moderate) - 5.0 miles (8.0 km); elevation gain about 300 feet (90 m). A popular Entrance 1 route that combines the Lower and Upper Lakes, electric boat sections, waterfalls, and a panoramic vehicle return.
Plitvica Trail (moderate) - 5.6 miles (9.0 km); elevation gain about 650 feet (200 m). An official hiking route from Labudovac toward the Plitvica Stream, Great Waterfall, and Kozjacka Draga dock.
Corkova Bay Trail (difficult) - 13.0 miles (21.0 km); elevation gain about 1,200 feet (365 m). A long official forest-and-meadow route through Corkova Uvala and Mt. Preka Kosa for visitors prepared for a full-day hike.
Lake Tour Programs
The official lake tour programs are the main way most visitors experience Plitvice. Program C starts at Entrance 1 and covers both the Lower and Upper Lakes with walking, electric boat rides, major waterfalls, and a panoramic vehicle return. Program H starts at Entrance 2 and also covers the entire lake area. Longer K programs are full-day walks through much of the lake zone.
Tickets and Conditions
The official park site recommends buying entrance tickets online through the Plitvice Lakes National Park ticketing system. Visitors should also check current conditions, alerts, entrance hours, weather, and route availability before arriving, especially during summer crowds, winter ice, high water, or maintenance closures.
Hotels, Campsites, and Restaurants
The official Plitvice Lakes site lists Hotel Jezero, Campsite Korana, Campsite Borje, and other park-run lodging options. Restaurant and cafe listings include Licka Kuca Restaurant, Restaurant Poljana - Black River, Restaurant Borje, Kozjak Caffe & Pastry, Poljana Restaurant, Restaurant Korana, Jezero Hotel - Waterfall Restaurant, and several bistros and cafe bars.
Webcam Notes
The embedded live area camera shows Korenica in the Plitvice Lakes area through LiveCamCroatia / WhatsUpCams. The official Plitvice Lakes National Park website also links to a SkylineWebcams waterfall livestream, but that exact camera is domain-locked for third-party embeds and its public embed image is only a play-overlay thumbnail rather than a true current frame. Use the official livestream link below to open that waterfall feed directly.
